SUPPORT AND SOLIDARITY WITTH THE GREEK PEOPLE

In face of the absurd and unacceptable measures taken by the Greek government in an attempt to contain the serious crisis the country is going through, the Trade Union International of Public & Allied Employees - TUI-Public Services, which is a sectorial entity of WFTU - World Federation of Trade Unions, expresses its total support to all workers in Greece through its largest organization, PAME.
The painful situation which the Greek people is having to face, and the great sacrifices Greek workers are being to endure is the result of the neoliberal policies implemented by the Greek Government.
Freezing wages and pensions for 2010, increasing the tax burden on workers and increasing the retirement age limit by two years will not solve the crisis. In fact, these measures will deepen it even further since the main causes for this entire situation, which are the financial speculation and the destructive policies imposed by the IMF-International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, are maintained and being developed.
Thus, TUI-Public Services believes that the rescue of the state, the strengthening of public services, the recovery of the national market through better wages and the break up with neoliberal policies are the only way to confront and overcome the current crisis.
Therefore, we express our support and our solidarity with PAME for its resistance and struggle in the defense of workers and the Greek People.
